Seafile is high performance an open source file sync & share software with document collaboration features. It allows editing of file with WYSIWYG Markdown editor, and supports file versioning.

The Product

They offer clients for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. Seafile also offers a web interface and a command line client. Seafile organized files into libraries that can be syned via the client software. Libraries can be hosted via the provided server software for Linux.

There are two options to access files from a client. Either via a sync client that keeps a local copy of the files or via the drive client that mounts the library as a virtual drive and essentially expands your disk space. Seafile also offers a feature to share files with other users and to collaborate on documents. It also offers a feature to encrypt files before uploading them to the server.

To prevent concurrent editing of files Seafile offers a file locking feature. This is useful when multiple users are working on the same file and want to prevent conflicts.
